Inlay are an engaging, experimental acoustic band who question categorisation. With the aid of a violin, accordion, guitars, 5-string banjo, slide guitar, bodhrán, percussion, mandolin and their own voices, the group makes use of traditional melodies from the British Isles in many of their intricate compositions producing a rich and full-bodied sound. The four-piece folk group formed this wonderful collaboration in 2010 whilst studying music in Norwich, drawing upon elements of each individual’s musical background. This distinct blend of folk mixed with bags of energy will provide audiences with one of the best live performances on the circuit. Being a part of this group takes Andrew back to the days of his childhood; playing the accordion for Morris teams and at festival workshops, he now revels in revisiting the folk tradition with Inlay. In addition to the featured folk influences on the Inlay website, a lot of his inspiration as an accordion/ bodhrán player is derived from avant-garde composers such as Stravinsky, Xenakis, Glass, Ligeti and Messiaen as well as folk artists. The activity of arranging works for violin, guitar, banjo and accordion excites his sensibilities as a part-time composer.
Inlay have performed across the UK on the folk circuit for the past decade, sharing stages with the likes of Uiscedwr, Calan, Dervish, Emily Portman, Lucy Ward, Joe Broughton & Kevin Dempsey.
